- Nutritional Supplements and Sound Therapy
Article Summary
- To optimize ear and brain function, we need to address both the electrical and chemical actions of our hearing system. Nutritional supplementation is an important element in this approach.
- Due to the many environmental and chemical pollutants affecting our health, additional and specific nutrients are required to keep the body in vibrant health.
- Just like the brain, the ear is one of the most energy-hungry organs, and its very precise and intensive processes need the right balance of nutrients to achieve optimal function. Accumulated toxins, lack of oxygen or lack of certain nutrients can reduce the ear’s correct performance, causing a number of degenerative ear-related disorders.
- Research has shown that a diverse range of antioxidants and micro-minerals are essential to fully support the optimal performance and recovery of the hearing mechanisms.

Nutrition and the ear
The ear is often referred to as the most energy hungry organ of the body. All parts of the ear require high quantities of nutrients to function properly and to avoid degenerative problems such as hearing loss or tinnitus. Only if the right elements and enzymes are present can the nerves successfully fire the precise signals at millisecond intervals required to accurately transmit sound.
The delicate balance of this system can be upset by:
- Insufficient oxygen due to poor circulation in the inner ear
- A deficiency in the trace minerals essential for enzyme activity
- A toxic overload being carried by the body
- Excessive free radical activity.
The electrical stability of the cochlea depends upon the presence of minerals such as magnesium and calcium, and on a correct balance of necessary enzymes, fatty acids and amino acids. The tiny hair-like cells in the lining of the cochlea, called cilia, are the final stage of sound transmission before the charge is relayed to the auditory nerve.
Even slight disturbances in the equilibrium of enzymes – along with other destructive environmental triggers such as excessive noise – can result in damage to the cilia.
Complementary health
While Sound Therapy works on the subtle energy of the body through vibration, in some situations it is also necessary to address the chemical balance of the body through nutrition. In these cases, nutritional supplementation is recommended.
Colloidal minerals
Colloidal minerals are very minute particles which have already been absorbed and processed by plants. They come in a liquid form and are readily “bio available”, meaning the body can absorb them. They are estimated to be 90% more available to the body than other types of mineral supplements. A good colloidal mineral will contain at least 60 different minerals.

Super antioxidants
Over the last few decades, many new sources of antioxidants have been discovered. The first generation, vitamins A, C and E, function in the body for only three hours. The second generation, discovered in grapeseed extract, pine bark extract and Ginkgo biloba, will last 2-3 times longer.
Third-generation antioxidants (curcuminoids) have now been discovered, and these have been shown to last inside the body for up to three days, as they scrub your body of dangerous free radicals.
A good antioxidant supplement will contain all of these ingredients.
Why we need supplements today

Pollution
The world today is affected by pollution. The air we breathe, the soil and water – even our homes – are contaminated by thousands of artificial chemicals. Over 75,000 chemicals are in common daily use, and this number is only increasing.
Many people suffer daily from diagnosed or undiagnosed chemical sensitivities, and modern 21st century diseases – including cancer, chronic fatigue, chemical sensitivity, hormone problems, infertility, osteoporosis, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, attention deficit disorder, tinnitus and various autoimmune diseases – have been correlated to the enormous increase in the toxic chemicals now found in our bodies and the environment.
Nutritional deficiency
The minerals that the body requires for a long and healthy life are no longer contained in the food we can buy today. For example, it has been calculated that in order to receive the mineral content of a plate of spinach of 50 years ago, you would now have to eat 50 plates of spinach.
Due to intensive chemical farming, the soil that is used for agriculture has become depleted of minerals. In addition, foods today are picked while still green, transported long distances, sprayed, stored, preserved, modified and processed before reaching our table.
By the time it reaches our bodies, the food we eat is depleted of the nutrients and natural antioxidant properties of fresh food. These nutritional deficiencies and high free radical levels make it more difficult for our bodies to resist disease.
Benefits of nutritional supplementation
The health benefits of good quality nutritional supplementation are far-reaching.
As well as preventing chronic disease over the long term, higher levels of nutrients and antioxidants have also been shown to improve the skin, gums and organs, digestion and circulation, as well as reduce stress, boost energy and enhance general well-being.
